Princess Ida – 26th–28th June 2025

Hull Savoyards presents Gilbert and Sullivan's Princess Ida; or, Castle Adamant, with accompaniment by the Kingston Savoy Orchestra.

Containing some of Gilbert’s wittiest salvoes and Sullivan’s catchiest melodies, this fun musical comedy concerns the union of two kingdoms through the marriage of Princess Ida and Prince Hilarion, who were betrothed in their infancy.

Twenty years later, a grown up Princess Ida has decided that she doesn't need a husband. In fact, she has established a women's university and teaches that women are superior to men in every way.

Prince Hilarion and two friends sneak into the university with the aim of convincing the Princess to change her mind. However, not everything goes according to plan, leading to a literal battle between the sexes, with hilarious consequences!
